Happy Fall, y’all!
Halloween is one of this Crazy couple’s all-time favorite holidays and it’s just around the corner! We can’t wait to dress up again this year and we’re making the best of having to wear face masks.
For years, wearing a mask has been associated with Halloween, but not exactly the way we are having to do it this year, thanks to COVID. We’ve come up with a list of 10 costumes that have the face mask built right in or that you can adapt to include a face mask with a little ingenuity. It will be all treats and no tricks with these clever costumes. Read on for costumes that will make your Halloween both spooktacular and safe!
#1 A Ninja/Samurai
Ninjas have been around since the 12th century and they may have been some of the first people to wear masks, although theirs were used to disguise their identities, not to keep germs out. Ninjas used a wide variety of weapons and tools in their missions, but the only tool you’ll need to stay safe this Halloween is your face mask.
#2 A Masked Bandit
You’ll steal the show with this costume!
Take a page out of the Wild, Wild West and dress up as Billy the Kid or Jesse James. Those paisley bandanas were originally used to keep dirt and dust out of the mouths and noses of cowboys as they rode their horses. Later they were used to hide a person’s identity during robberies. We aren’t recommending you rob a bank or anything, but you’ll definitely steal the show with this costume!
#3 Star Wars Darth Vader/StormTrooper
The Empire strikes back against COVID! Star Wars costumes are always in style and this year is no exception. Step over to the dark side and dress up as Darth Vader or a stormtrooper. Besides looking really cool, the stormtrooper helmets were designed to filter the air, a perfect way to keep any unwanted viruses away. May the Force be with you.
#4 Astronaut
Being an astronaut is a childhood dream for many and is always a popular choice for a Halloween costume. An astronaut helmet can provide great protection from viruses. Complete with it’s own clear face shield, it’s a great way to be safe and be cool at the same time.
#5 Belly Dancer
Want a Halloween costume with a little mystery or intrigue? Dress up like a belly dancer! Belly dancer veils are traditionally very thin and sheer, but you can adapt a regular mask with sequins, bangles and fringes to create the iconic look or wear a face mask underneath the veil.
#6 Mummy
Not technically a mask, but the gauze wrapping can be used to cover the nose and mouth, thus protecting you and others from unwanted germs. You could also wear a regular face mask underneath the gauze wrapping for added protection.
#7 Day of the Dead/Día de Muertos
One of the hottest costumes the past couple of years has been Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Traditionally, the face is painted all white, with bright colorful flowers and designs around the eyes and mouth. You can purchase a pre-made mask like those pictured, or paint your own to match your costume.
#8 Cruella DeVille
Cruella is one of the hottest new movies out this year and it’s sure to be a costume favorite in 2021. Where else can you wear two toned hair and get away with it? We know Cruella didn’t wear a mask in the movie, but we’d be willing to bet she’d design glamorous masks with sequins and rhinestones or don a spotted dalmatian mask to coordinate with her outrageous style. Design your own to make an epic costume even Cruella would love!
#9 Steam Punk
If you’re like us, you can’t get enough of all things steam punk. We dressed up in our first Steam Punk costume in October 2019 and did a little upgrade to our costumes in 2020, since we weren’t sure if there were even going to BE any Halloween celebrations last year.
In 2021, we are changing things up, but it’s still a fun costume and they have created some great masks that can disguise your protective face mask.
#10 The Mask
If you gotta wear a mask, this is a great choice for a costume. OK, so the Mask mask wouldn’t protect you from pesky COVID germs, but this one can! Find it here and have it delivered straight to your front door!
We hope you got some great ideas from this post! Please leave a comment or photo of how you incorporated a mask into your Halloween costume.
